The Body Scrub Workshop

There’s something deeply grounding about making something with your own two hands—especially something that smells delicious, feels luxurious, and leaves your skin glowing like you just spent a weekend at a spa. Our Body Scrub Workshop was born out of that craving for ritual, slowing down, and reconnecting with ingredients that come straight from nature (and sometimes, our own gardens).

This workshop is part apothecary, part sensory therapy, and part creative play. Whether you’re crafting a scrub for yourself, gifting one to a friend, or turning your bathroom into a mini spa sanctuary, here’s the full guide to creating your own Beverly Hills Farm–worthy body scrub at home.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Before we dive into the step-by-step, gather your supplies.
These ingredients are easy to find, gentle on the skin, and fun to customize.

BASES — choose one:

  • Fine Sea Salt
Best for more intense exfoliation, brightening, and smoothing rough areas like elbows or heels.

  • Raw Cane Sugar (white or brown)
A gentler option perfect for sensitive skin and everyday use.

BOTANICALS — for texture, color & healing benefits:

  • Lavender buds

  • Calendula petals

  • Rose petals

  • Cornflower petals

  • Lemon peel

  • Mint leaves

  • Chamomile flowers

  • Eucalyptus leaves

Use dried flowers only—they blend better, last longer, and won’t mold.

OILS — the magic that brings it all together:

  • Organic jojoba oil (the star of the show)
Absorbs beautifully, mimics our skin’s natural oils, hydrates without clogging.

  • You can substitute with:

    • Sweet almond oil

    • Fractionated coconut oil

    • Grapeseed oil

    • Apricot kernel oil

ESSENTIAL OILS — your scent profile:

(Choose 1–3 oils for a layered aroma)

  • Lavender

  • Eucalyptus

  • Peppermint

  • Lemon

  • Grapefruit

  • Vanilla

  • Geranium

  • Cedarwood

  • Chamomile

  • Rosemary

Tip:
Stick to 15–20 drops total for each full scrub batch.

TOOLS:

  • Mixing bowl

  • Mortar & pestle

  • Spatula

  • Whisk

  • Measuring cups + teaspoons

  • Amber jar with lid

  • Small dish for pre-mixing oils

HOW TO MAKE YOUR SCRUB

The exact method we use in our workshop

STEP 1 — Choose your recipe (or create your own)

Pick your scent blend: calming, energizing, floral, citrusy, woodsy—whatever you’re craving.
Your scrub will always follow the same ratio:

  • 1/3 heaping cup salt or sugar

  • 1–2 teaspoons botanicals

  • 2½ teaspoons jojoba oil

  • 15–20 total drops essential oils

STEP 2 — Add your base to the mixing bowl

Pour in your sea salt or sugar. Make sure it’s fine grain—coarse texture will feel too harsh.

STEP 3 — Prep your flowers & herbs

Measure 1–2 teaspoons of your chosen botanicals.
Add to your mortar and pestle.

STEP 4 — Grind botanicals to preferred texture

You can go:

  • Fine & delicate (spa-like silky scrub)

  • Chunkier (rustic, textured scrub with visible petals)

Pour the crushed botanicals on top of your salt/sugar and gently mix.

STEP 5 — Prep your jojoba oil

Empty your pre-measured jojoba into a small dish.
This is your carrier oil base.

STEP 6 — Add your essential oils

Slowly drip your chosen essential oils into the jojoba.
Whisk to combine.

Tip: Thicker oils like vanilla or chamomile take longer to drip—don’t rush.

STEP 7 — Combine everything

Drizzle your scented jojoba oil over the dry ingredients.
Use your spatula to fold, mix, and press until fully combined and glossy.

At this point your scrub should look like:

  • Slightly damp sand

  • Aromatic and colorful

  • Hydrated but not oily

STEP 8 — Jar your scrub

Scoop into your amber jar using a spatula.
Pack it down gently to remove air pockets.
Seal with lid.

HOW TO USE YOUR SCRUB

For the best, most glowing-skin results:

  • Use on damp skin in the shower or bath.

  • Scoop a small amount and massage in circular motions.

  • Start at ankles and move upward to encourage circulation.

  • Rinse with warm water.

  • Pat dry (don’t rub!).

  • Follow with body oil or moisturizer to seal in hydration.

PRO TIPS & SAFETY NOTES

  • Stir before each use. Natural oils may settle.

  • Avoid use immediately before sun exposure if your scrub contains citrus essential oils—they can cause photosensitivity.

  • Store in a cool, dry place.

  • For a less oily scrub, refrigerate.

  • Never use on your face—too abrasive.

  • Always patch test essential oils if you have sensitive skin.

WHY JOJOBA OIL IS OUR HERO

Jojoba oil is a skincare miracle because:

  • It mimics your skin’s natural sebum

  • Hydrates without clogging pores

  • Rich in vitamin E & B-complex vitamins

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Helps with eczema, psoriasis, and healing

  • Stabilizes well (won’t go rancid easily)

We love it because it leaves the skin moisturized—not greasy.
